Preparing for Common Ground II

Working Group Updates:

  • Food: How can we create an edible campus? How can we get UVic interested with local foods? How can we link food w/ climatge change?
  • Public Outreach: What are the connections between community and local government?
  • Energy: How much hot water does campus use? How much GHG emitted per litre of hot water? -Carbon footprint for solar-hot-water units?
  • Green Building: How do we avoid stepping on POLIS's toes/business & economy?
  • Next week: Talk about how we will map UVic's linkages to POLIS & other UVic groups & working groups and how they all link to one another AND groups begin planning summer transition.


Communication To Do List

Long-term to dos...

  • Messages -> how we communicate what we want ppl to be aware of.
  • Goals -> awareness (of what); recruitment for summer; defining Beyond Climate Neutral (keep initiative in mind: how will we creat BCN plan?); popularize working groups; show what we have done; get ppl to go to the Wiki -> video or slideshow re: what we do ("trailer")
  • Channels -> classroom; audience; events; posters (master template); e-mail -> student & faculty formats.

Order: Goals/Messages

  • (2) Show 'em what we've done
  • (3) Popularize working groups
  • (4) Recruitment for summer
  • (5) Get ppl to go to Wiki

Short-term to dos/suggestions...

  • Scrap events (public) and classrooms speaking.
  • Get Jenna and Stephen in touch w/ Batemen -> Wiki logos for ea. Working Group.
  • Posters next week (? Whatever time works for Jenna and Stephen) -> simple, generic message. -> talk to Mark for moolah -> tear offs (yes to this idea) with info or business cards.
  • Jamie to maintain prestegious status as "head e-mailer"
  • Find out who'll be around in summer -> web TT -> summer classes -> Heather
  • What will be our web-presence on UVic.ca? -> summer transition.
  • Inter-faculty competition update -> business into it but not driving it -> thermometre or whiteboard to measure competition progress -> have elect. info for buildings -> need to figure out self-reporting for transportation -> links on Uvic.ca?
  • Presence at similar, community events -> need to show support for other community groups -> need representatives to attend these -> Commnity Outreach and Events sub-group will dicuss this issue (Black Stilt, Fri., Mar. 16).
  • Include staff in e-mails.
  • Help organize Car-Free Day (Jill).
  • Party!!! -> host to put down plastic on couch in preparation for Heather -> Lucy to host -> probably on April 12th.
