Developing the Planning Partnership
From Common Energy UVic
This is now out of date. See the Projects page.
Since Finding Common Ground Conference the Research team has been working to evolve its plan for the Planning Partnership. At the Conference we both learned the power of large scale collaboration and the importance of situating that collaboration within the proper processes and planning. The current timeline and evolving challenges are outlined below, this forms a core planning process that guides our Projects.

[edit] Timeline
This is the schedule for developing the beyond climate-neutral plan for UVic, from the middle of March through to the September Going Beyond Climate-Neutral Conference in which we will bring the extended network together to work on realizing the plan that we have created.
[edit] April
By the end of March the Working Groups will have completed their initial phase of research and planning. The sections, actions, and proposals that they have created will then be compiled by their Writer into the Going Beyond Climate-Neutral Progress Report - April 2007. This will be submitted to the Editors who will provide feedback for the Working Groups, then craft the revised progress reports into one document and send it to the Reviewers and send it back to the Working Groups with their feedback.
A caveat, we are constantly adapting and evolving our plans as the context in which they were created changes. With that in mind, here is our current plan:
[edit] Week of April 16th to 22nd
Editors give feedback to Working Groups at the end of the week after meeting in Sedgewick C141 at 11:00AM. Working Groups decide if they need to meet.
[edit] Week of April 23rd to 29
Working Groups review feedback to finalize their portion of the document. Design and style work for the document is begun.
[edit] Sunday, April 29th
Common Ground III, an afternoon session to finalize the document and re-organize research for the summer. This day will be crucial both for developing what we have for to the highest degree, and for planning the research work for the summer. It will also be an opportunity to get some new people involved. More information at Common Ground III.
[edit] Week of April 29th to May 5th
The deadline for Working Groups to complete draft of their sections of the progress report base on Editors feedback is Thursday May 3rd.
One key element of this is the inclusion of references. Check Reference Style Guide.
- The Working Groups will then respond to the feedback and return their sections by May 25th, during the meetings that week the Working Groups should plan their strategy for turning the progress report into a plan over the summer
- The Editors will then finalize the document for publication and launch at an event on May 31st
[edit] Week of May 6th to May 12th
Reviewers are given the Going Beyond Climate-Neutral Progress Report - April 2007 for their review. The Working Groups do not need to meet.
This will be updated shortly. The Progress Report will be launched on June 12th.
[edit] June and July
June and July are going to be the main months for turning the report into a plan. In general, this will mean expanding the one or two paragraph sections of the report into two or three page sections of the plan. For clarity, we will call developing a section in this way a project.
The strategy that a Working Group wants to follow to turn its sections into the plan is up to each of them. In some cases, they have a strong core and will continue to meet, in other cases they don't and should split into the various projects. Furthermore, there are some projects that overlap so greatly they can't be said to be from any particular group.
In general, it will be crucial that people developing projects contact the people at the university and in the region with experience and insight for them.
Furthermore, it is likely that there will be a Common Ground IV during these months.
[edit] August
During August the final writing of the draft will be completed and it will be sent to reviewers.
[edit] September
The beyond climate-neutral plan will be released and the Going Beyond Climate-Neutral Conference will be dedicated to realizing it.
