Editors
From Common Energy UVic
The Editors are part of the Planning Partnership and will work with the Writers to create an overall style for the beyond climate-neutral plan and ensure that the entire work is translated into a coherent document. This will require creating templates for note taking and solving many of the challenges posed by creating a linear document from a complex and interdependent process. They are currently working on the Going Beyond Climate-Neutral Progress Report - April 2007.
The Editors meet as a group to make decisions on editorial feedback for the Planning Partnership. They will then make edits and communicate that feedback using wiki accounts with their name prefixed by "Editor-" to indicate that it is a group decision from the Editors, and not their personal opinion.

[edit] Editors General Feedback to Working Group Progress Reports
[edit] General
Substantive editing has been placed into the progress reports for review by the Working Groups. The following are some general points for all Working Groups:
[edit] Acronyms
- Common Energy (CE)
- beyond climate-neutral (BCN)
- University of Victoria (UVic)
[edit] Reference Style
This is currently being developed by Naomi.
[edit] Language and Tone
The progress report is intended to be a highly positive document. We are taking on a challenge that is currently causing despair in a way that should be bold and inspiring. For that reason, be positive and assertive without being preachy or oppositional. There may come a time when we engage in oppositional politics, but this is not it.
On a similar note, instead of using the term "climate crisis" we will use "climate change." The main reason for this is that the crisis frame does not seem to be particularly useful for motivating people right now. Mainly, people are just depressed about it. In that context, it makes more sense to talk about change - and how we can shape those changes.
[edit] Actions and Proposals
Divide actions and proposals into point form and in chronological order (separate sections with context and concepts, actions and proposals).
- In general: plans should start with practical steps that are immediately possible, and then lead through subsequent actions and proposals to beyond climate-neutral effects whereby the university is catalyzing a transformation in the region.
Check to make sure we are using the correct terminology
- Actions - These are projects that Common Energy can undertake without approval by the administration.
- Proposals - These are projects that Common Energy will propose for approval by the administration.
Write the actions and proposals so that they have a simple imperative statement followed by a "-" and then a brief rational for the action or proposal. In other words: "Do this - for this reason"
When describing the relationships with other groups that will be necessary to achieve success use variations on "collaborate" instead of other more loaded terms such as "partner" or "consult."
[edit] Questions
1) How could student research benefit elements of your plan? In other words, how can we integrate with curricula?
2) Does your section of the plan create a path for going beyond climate-neutral?
[edit] Beyond Climate-Neutral Section
A beyond climate-neutral section will be added to the end of each progress report to create a space for a brief explanation of how these proposals and actions will contribute to moving the university beyond climate-neutral.
[edit] Questions for Editors and Discussion
This is a place to put questions for the Editors and generally to discuss how the progress report is shaping up.
[edit] =Reference Style
All of the work in the progress reports needs to be cited. Check out the Reference Style Guide to learn how.
