GoBEYOND

goBEYOND is a province-wide campaign to move students and institutions beyond climate-neutral. goBEYOND is a Project that Common Energy has worked on collaboratively with the Sierra Youth Coalition, UBC Sustainability Office, and groups across the provice from the Campus Climate Network. UVic was one of the three campuses that launched in September of 2008. There are now 9 campuses involved accross the province.

We thank the BC Climate Action Secretariat, BC Hydro, and UVic Sustainaibility Office for their support of the project.

goBEYOND is designed to meet people where they are at, connect with them, and help them take the next step.

We want to:

1. Educate people who do not care about climate change.
2. Inspire people who care to act.
3. Engage people who are acting to make a difference in their communities.
4. Support people who are making a difference.

The goBEYOND Challenge is a viral challenge to go beyond climate-neutral in your own life. The Challenge is to take the next step to become climate-neutral and go beyond. The more people that take the Challenge the more support for climate action that we can show at UVic.

Over 800 people have already taken the Challenge at UVic and well over 2,000 have taken it accross the province.

We are supporting collaboration to move our university beyond climate-neutral.

We organized the We Can Do Better campaign to improve the first draft of the Sustainability Policy and Plan. Thanks to everyone that pitched in we helped make the final Sustainability Policy and Plan a much stronger document.

Now, we are asking you to join students, staff, faculty and regional partners around BC vote on the Six Big Ideas to move our schools beyond climate-neutral. Check out the video intro to find out more or go straight to voting form.

We want people to learn by solving problems that will serve communities.

We organized two goBeyond teach-ins that brought tens of thousands of people together across the province. Check out the final report: goBeyond 2009 Teach-In Report

We are also beginning to organize the Climate Solutions for the CRD project.

We are training people to become more effective organizers. Training focuses on coordination, communication, research, and facilitation.

goBEYOND is a comprehensive project to create change. We need you to make this happen. If you would like to take your involvement in the climate change movement to the next level, we are currently recruiting for the following positions:

1. Campaigners - outreach, connecting, persuading.
2. Communicators - media, online, stunts.
3. Coordinators - logistics, events, management.
4. Researchers - developing, testing, evaluating.
5. Do-ers - hands on, build stuff, take part.
