Guide: Focus Areas Introduction

From Common Energy UVic

Jump to: navigation, search

The focus areas are the key sectors in which UVic has a responsibility to go climate-neutral and an opportunity to go beyond climate-neutral. Each area is a source of greenhouse gas emissions. Some areas, such as buildings, energy, and transportation, are more direct sources of greenhouse gasses, while others, such business and food, are more indirect. The areas of indirect greenhouse gas emissions correspondingly offer some of the best opportunities for creating larger solutions with local and global partners.

The final focus area, civic engagement and governance, is not a source of emissions, but a key area to focus on if we are going to be successful. While the comprehensive projects highlight institutional drivers and the rest of the focus areas point to areas of opportunity to reduce emissions, civic engagement and governance provides strategies that will underpin the successful implementation of the rest through effective, collaborative, and participatory decision-making.
