From Common Energy UVic
Take the Next Step Beyond Climate-Neutral! Common Energy is piloting this project to create a House Challenge. If the pilot is a success then it will become part of goBEYOND, a BC-wide student-led initiative funded by BC Hydro and LiveSmart BC.

[edit] Your Impacts
How much do you impact the climate?
Try LiveSmart's Online Calculator
Write down the per year impact of your house as a whole, and of each person living there.
[edit] Your Options
This challenge focuses on on transportation, food, and home. Think of transportation, food, and home as services. We all want the services. We do not want the greenhouse gasses. We can make small, medium, and large changes to get the services with less impact.
Transportation - Sample Changes
Small: bike/walk 2/week
Medium: carpool to work
Large: always bike/bus/walk
Food - Sample Changes
Small: learn 1/vegetarian meal/week
Medium: compost your food waste
Large: 100 mile diet
Home - Sample Changes
Small: weatherstrip your windows
Medium: google and get LiveSmart rebates
Large: install solar hot water heater
We have WAY more. Full list at: goBEYOND Challenge Choices
[edit] Your Plan
Create a plan with changes you will make by December 1st, by February 1st and May 1st.
Finally, check your new impacts and celebrate the change!
[edit] Tell Your Friends, and Tell Us How it Goes
Send us stories about how things go. We will share stories to inspire and learn from each other. We also want your feedback so we can improve. Tell your friends to sign up for the House Challenge. We will send them info, and feature the houses that sign up the most houses. Contact us at: commonenergy (at) gmail.com
