Integrating Teaching and Learning Planning Tool
From Common Energy UVic
The Integrating Teaching and Learning Planning Tool is a Seven Question Tool for the Integrating Teaching and Learning Project.
[edit] What are the needs that the project will address?
- Need to develop research and education for climate change planning and action
- Need to make that research and education accessible and publicly available
- Need to engage students with education that gives them research experience and create relationships
- Need to create the capacity to support and catalyze climate change planning and strategies throughout the region to go beyond climate-neutral
- Need to support global climate change research
- Need to make it easier for faculty to incorporate this into their classes as they are already stretched
- Need to integrate this project with the Strategic Plan and the Integrated Planning Process
- Need to facilitate the network effect between researchers, students, policy-makers, and practitioners.
- Need to build on strengths at UVic, particularly in the natural sciences
- Need to create an informal network of people interested in climate change planning and action at the university and in the region to increase the capacity of the region's research and planning capacity and consensus-building.
[edit] What problem can we solve to address these needs?
How can we support and catalyze climate change action by integrating teaching and learning by students, staff, faculty, and regional partners?
[edit] What do we need to know to solve the problem?
- What are the core problems the region needs to solve?
- How can problem-based and service-learning approaches be integrated with existing curricula?
- How can new interdisciplinary and team-based curricula be developed?
- How can we integrate teaching and learning across multiple universities and colleges?
- How can we engage regional partners to teach students, staff, and faculty at UVic?
[edit] Who should we ask to get that information?
- The Walking the Talk network in BC.
- Theresa Dawson, The Teaching and Learning Centre at UVic.
- Jamie Cassells, VP Academic and Provost at UVic.
- Second Nature and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
- Climate change researchers at UVic
- Regional partners - ENGOs, business,
[edit] How are the decisions that effect this problem made?
- The project will require decisions by many individual faculty.
- The project may also require decisions by the Deans, Senate, and VP Academic and Provost
[edit] Who do we need to engage to make this change?
(e.g. Diverse groups and individuals on campus to build support, the relevant decision makers, the relevant experts, the farmers...)
[edit] What is it going to take, and how are we going to do it?
Strategic Goal: Create a climate change research hub to support and catalyze the region in creating plans to move beyond climate-neutral.
[edit] Objective: Climate Planning Teaching and Learning Network
[edit] Objective: Knowledge Base
[edit] Objective: Ecological Economics and Network Governance
This objective links this project closely to both the Civic Engagement and Governance projects.
