Knowledge Base
From Common Energy UVic
| Note - Building the Knowledge Base is on hold. Over the summer we will develop it so that it becomes a place where people can go to learn and to record information.
A Knowledge Base is a place to find and share information. The goal is to make it easy to integrate and aggregate knowledge generated by the network, and make it available for anyone. The Knowledge Base is Common Energy's answer to this question: How do we bring people together to share the information we need to solve the problems of climate change? Common Energy is creating a Knowledge Base to support the people that want to do things about climate change, but are not sure what to do and how to do it. Initially, it will be used by our network as a place to store information provides the foundation for beyond climate-neutral plans. As part of those plans, the Knowledge Base will evolve into a shared resource for people working on solving the problems of climate change, whether they are city councilors or engineering students. By using an online wiki Knowledge Base we intend to liberate information that would be useful for people from the tyranny of the personal computer. As more people with diverse perspectives participate in this project the Knowledge Base will become more valuable for everyone. |

We need your help: Let us know what you do at UVic! Fill out the knowledge map form, and email it to info@commonenergy.org. Or, if you are feeling energetic, create your own Knowledge Map page, but remember to use the same format as those already in place. |
[edit] Developing the Knowledge Base
Currently, the foundation is being laid to make the Knowledge Base cleaner, simpler, and easier to use. The Knowledge Base Style Guide will form an important part of that effort. The style guide will provide an outline for Knowledge Base pages and make it easier for the Knowledge Base to grow without becoming too confusing.
[edit] What do we need for the Knowledge Base?
Please post any ideas you have on things that should be included in the Knowledge Base:
- Consistency of style and ease for new members to adhere to that style
- Information on particular places (e.g. climate change and Victoria)
- Information on particular technological and policy solutions
- Information on organizational techniques and resources
- Places for reports, including student reports
- Places for people to ask questions that other participants can answer
[edit] Reports
While development of the overall Knowledge Base is currently on hold during this cycle of the Planning Partnership, this section on reports will be used to coordinate (under planned reports) and house (under current reports) our collective production of knowledge.
[edit] Current Reports
- University Carbon Dioxide-Neutral Plans
- Spring Progress Report - 2007
- American University and College President's Climate Commitment

[edit] The University and the Region
This section provides more specific context for our project at UVic. The knowledge map section is a place to find out what is going on at UVic on the climate change front. Individual-based pages show what is being done, and how work is interconnected.
[edit] Focus Areas
This section includes information relevant to the Focus Areas; it will inform the discussions of the Working Groups and develop as they explore solutions to local dynamics of the climate crisis.
- Business and the Economy Knowledge
- Civic Engagement and Governance Knowledge
- Energy Knowledge
- Food Knowledge
- Buildings, Infrastructure, and Ecology Knowledge
- Transportation Knowledge
