Research Meeting Dec 6, 2006 4:30pm

Attendence: Jamie (Facilitator), Naomi, Mark, Brandi, Dan (left at 17:00), Alli, Allan, Jill, Mike, Tony, Ramona.

Collaboration Training

  • Need a note Taking Template
  • First week facilitator/note taking training - Allie, Mike, Brandy, Mark, Jill would like to do it.
  • Facilitator and note taking training: Saturday, Jan 6 - Mark to try and book the SUB.
  • Discussed the validity of having a pre-conference.

ISSUE: Pre-conference

SOLUTIONS: Research group will spearhead with a closed Workshop. It will be an elaborate general meeting where we will test our Common Ground structure and develop the Focus Areas. Ensure everyone is extremely clear that it is a dry run. Try to recruit some experts to help us work with various levels of knowledge in the room and as a recruitment tool.

CONCERNS: Opening up to public risk of looking unprepared; the ambiguity of having the title "pre-conference"; Need to try open space dialogue

DATA:

  • Who will be deciding who are the Focus Area facilitators? Allow for two facilitators per Focus Area if need be (Great idea Allan).
  • How will the Focus Area report to the group what they are doing? Before the end of the Common Ground session, the group collaboratively makes a summary - then the facilitator reports this to the larger group in Re-Group and Wrap-Up and asks if anyone from there group would like to follow up.

Planning the Research Partnership

Conference

  • Name tags: ask invitees to bring their own; invest in plastic cases, and at end of conference ask for them back. (Send this back to coordination).
  • Packages: Green Map, Business Sponsorship.
  • Information fair - recruit information from grad students, providing the opportunity to recruit them.
  • The documents that we are creating collaboratively (including the proceedings of the Feb 5th conference) will acknolwedge all of the people that were involved - there still needs to be a lot of work done on putting together the structure for this.
