Research Meeting - February 27, 2007. Minutes

Attendance: Jamie Biggar, Dan Pollock (left at 5pm), Andrew Bateman, Emily Keller, Joe Melton (left at 5pm), Mark Chandler, Sarah Burgess

1. Writers Use the Food chapter as the template for taking and developing minutes.

2. Timeline and Public Info

Concerns that the timeline is too tight, with no contingency plan. Do we do public workshops? Do we have the time to organize?

Release the advance summary. When should it be released? We are targeting staff, faculty, community, because right now is not the time to target students. We will target students in September.

The deadline for information from working group writers is april 5th. Throughout April professors and professional to edit the document. Mid to late April release of advance summary.

ACTION: Move the date of the Advance Summary to Mid to Late April

We will not be doing a public workshops throughout March, so the working groups must actively recruit professors and professionals for input. What were the original reasons for public workshops and common ground? to have a meeting that produce the basis for further work. Also, we will push the Common Ground Conference to March 16th, so working groups have more time to develop something before the meeting.

ACTION: Cancel public workshops.

A date between March 18th and March 25th. 4 hours. Presentation from each working group followed by Common Ground. Vertigo or Michele Pujol Room.

3. Referencing Bateman suggested footnotes. Dan says this is easy to do on media wiki. Bateman stressed the importance of academic quality references. In the knowledge base, have an external link to it. Dan suggested creating a skeleton page for each working group on the wiki where contributors can dump information in, and people more familiar with wiki can create links and edit the document. Jamie stressed the importance of developing the knowledge base.
