[edit] Writers Update

BUSINESS AND THE ECONOMY: Emily - has draft chapter up. Worried that most information is in people's heads and not on the wiki.

  • We need things to be getting out of people's heads and on to the wiki. If things are not, then the Coordinator should prompt this.

ENERGY: Emissions Reductions program is the big idea. There are small, medium, and long term.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE: Brandy - great outline with some additions.

TRANSPORTATION: One group is looking to resurrect LRT campaign - VERS - which has been defunct since 1994 is looking to restart activities within their network. This would be around April. Transitwiki will be working with them - what official capacity will CE be involved?

[edit] Common Ground II

Next Monday, 1-5pm. Small Side Michele Pujol Room.

AGENDA

Splitting the session into an Open Space section, 1.5 hours, and 70 minutes of a World Cafe.

Open Space - to continue to open space what is exciting is about what is happening in our WGs and make other groups aware of our progress. Movement is emphasized, however the writer will stay situated in the Working Group. The host is the coordinator, the participant is the writer.

Break & reorder the tables into World Cafe Style. Each table will represent a working group and have a rough outline of their document. Participants will sit at each table and discuss the question on the table of each group. Question is designed around what is stagnating the group.

3 shuffles take place so there is cross-polination. Ideas discussed are written on the paper on the table.

The idea is to create a space for new thinking.

Rehersal of World Cafe 1:30 on Friday March 16th after Megan's brown bag facilitation lecture.

ACTION: tell Mark to bring paper for the World Cafe for the Friday meeting.

We need to be getting from our groups:

  • concise list of the sections we are looking into, and the actions and proposals we are looking at.
  • what the group is struggling with

[edit] Meeting Structure

We need to formalize our meeting and decision making structures.

  • Get info out of the heads of core-organizers
  • Extend the horizon of time for people to have information to make decisions
  • What to do with loose ends - how do we build into a process a way of doing the things we decided we do

Cycle proposed:

Identify (an issue) - AGENDA CALL Communicate (about that issue to the group) - AGENDA Problem Solve (deal with the issue) Communicate Decisions (to the list serv/wiki) Implement Decisions Evaluate (this takes us back to new issues)

Discussion took place around the usefulness of mindmaps. Some participants do not understand the motivation behind using them in place of lists.

Should mindmaps be used only when there are interconnections between the various parts of the maps? Are mindmaps contributing to our tendency not to finish things? Are mindmaps sometimes used instead of getting things done? We should leave this to the facilitator's discretion - now that it's been brought up, it will be kept in mind.

So - we could use mindmaps where necessary and create a list of actions from the conversations and the end of the meeting.

What happened to the decision to put recent decisions on the wiki/an email?

We need to use the wiki more for this type of thing.

An email that is already going out - add the link of where to find the decisions on the wiki.

Human being decision re-telling is fallible as a primary form of communicating the decisions.

DECISION: NOT MADE. Referred to next Reserach meeting, or before hand if possible in another meeting.

[edit] Researchers

How do we engage people who do not like to come to meetings?

Jill - might come down to the work that myself and Mark are doing on how to engage new members of Common Energy.

Using a person as a central delgator for the groups that are having trouble getting things on to the wiki.

We need to find advisors for working groups.

[edit] Decisions Made

1. Jill will try the delegation and report back model with Business and the Economy to see if it works.

2. Dan will write up what he thinks meeting structure should look like for the group to discuss further.

3. Rehersal notification. World Cafe rehersal will take place this Friday after Megan's brown bag lecture

4. Direct Coordination to get research up on the wiki.
